Ryan and I live at 4165 E. 46th Place.  Our black lab, Bodhi, has gone missing this evening.  Our home is for sale and numerous people have therefore been through, so we are unsure if he got out during a home inspection or if he has been taken from our backyard.  Our gate was unlocked, but the gate is closed.  Can you please put out a neighborhood bulletin notifying the area to keep an eye out for him?  Our contact number is 629-8708.

Bodhi is 6 years old, weighs approximately 75-80 pounds and is all black.  Unfortunately he is not wearing a collar because his recently broke and had not yet been replaced.

Thanks so much-
Kim and Ryan Harper

Message received from Jim & Pat Heath on Feb. 10

My neighbor just called to ask if we heard the gunshots last night.  We didn't.  They said there were four or five gunshots on the school ground about 12:50 am and then wheels squealing when one or more cars left.  The police showed up quickly and apparently patrolled the neighborhood for a couple hours BUT nobody saw anything.  I believe the Green's, Duvall's and Gee's talked to the police.  Just thought everyone ought to know!!  Thanks, Pat Heath

I wanted you to know about some vandalism at our house.  We live at the corner of Louisville and 48th Street.

This Saturday night, right about midnight, my husband and I heard a loud pop/crack sound outside. We went outside and found that our yard light had been shot out, the second time this year!

We called the police immediately hoping the the vandals were still in the neighborhood. Four police cars showed up within about 10 minutes. The police officers decided that it probably was a real small-caliber gun, and not a bb gun that did the damage.

This happened earlier this year when some other neighbors had their yard lights destroyed.

Please let our neighbors know to be on the lookout for vandals, and please call the police if you see this happen.

2006, November 3

The latest information from the Public Works & Development Department is that the 45th & 46th Streets rehabilitation, between Pittsburg and Toledo, is estimated to begin in February 2007; A notice was sent to the residents of the streets involved.

2006, November 3

Message received from residents on New Haven

just wanted to let you know someone attempted to steal our Honda Accord from our driveway around 6:45 this evening.  The alarm sounded and when we made it outside, we saw no one.  The driver side back window had a hole punched through it just above the inside door look but we found nothing inside.  We have the car completely emptied to sell it so they were not after the contents.  Please spread the word so people can be on the lookout for strange or suspicious people in the neighborhood.  If anyone looks like they don't belong, the police will come and check them out - we just have to call.

2006, July 14

Safety tip

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.  If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car.  The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

2006, July 14

When you get a minute, would you please add something to the website to remind our neighbors to make sure their cars are locked at night.  A few years ago my husband left his car unlocked ? twice(!) within a month.  Both times someone opened the car and helped themselves to whatever was in there.  Just recently a man who lives across the street from us left his car unlocked and it was pilfered.  I believe we have young people walking through the neighborhood checking car doors each night.  The little creeps will take anything they want!

Subject: Cell Phone Info

Here is some advice which was forwarded to me and it sounds pretty good. It appears to have been verefied too.
checked this out on snopes.com and it said this is true.

Here is something worth knowing if you have a mobile phone .

Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interested in
trying to prevent the theft of mobile phones? If you have ever lost,
or had one stolen, and if you are on a plan, you still have to pay the
plan approximately up to 24 months, and you have to buy another
handset and enter into another contract.  This is more revenue for the
phone company.

There is a simple way of making lost or stolen mobiles useless to
thieves and the phone companies know about it, but keep it quiet.

To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following on
your phone:

star-hash-zero-six-hash ( * # 0 6 # ) and a fifteen digit code will
appear on the screen.  This is unique to your handset. Write it down
and keep it safe.  Should your mobile phone get stolen, you can phone
your service provider and give them this code.  They will then be able
to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the sim card, your
phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that
whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.

You may want to send this to as many people with mobiles as possible.

No charge for directory assistance

Phone companies are charging us $1.00 or more for 411 - information
calls when they don't have to.
When you need to use the 411 / information option!,  simply dial 1-800-FREE-411 or 1 800 373 3411 without incurring a charge.

A good story that I heard last night.  At a recent Patrick Henry meeting a resident living at 46th Place and Pittsburg reported a break in at their house that occured in April 2006.  The front door had been kicked in and jewelry and other items taken.  THE GOOD NEWS.  During the police investigation someone had noticed a strange vehicle and reported it.  That vehicle was located while in the process of disposing of items taken in another burglary.  The vehicle was spotted by a policeman that remembered the description of one identified as suspicious and arrested a man and his wife near the dumpster behind Johnnies Charbroiler.  They have since been sentenced to 5 years in the pen and the resident was able to recover a watch.  Not much to recover but great satisfaction and proof that neighborhood alerts work.

2006, July 3

Just wanted to give you a heads up, I live on 41st Place between
Sandusky and Pittsburg, our neighbor across the street and another
neighbor said that change, etc. was taken from their cars last night.
The cars were unlocked and that is the only reason why we weren't hit.

A few days ago they announced on the local TV news program a phone
number for Tulsa County which people can call to request their city block and a
certain area they specify to be sprayed for mosquitos.

However they also said that Tulsa County will only spray for
mosquitos the areas with the most people
located in a square mile who call the phone number and make the
request by leaving a message with
their specific address on a voice mail recording, etc.

The Tulsa County phone no. to call requesting your area be sprayed
for mosquitos is 918-595-4219.

One of my neighbors (42nd & Sandusky) experienced some vandalism last week that I thought I´d pass along.  She called to tell me that she had bought and installed some new landscape lights ? the solar kind that line the walkway.  That very night someone (or a few someones) broke most of them and stole the tops off most of them.  They also sent one of her prized potted plants crashing to the ground, breaking the pot.  I advised her to call the police, which she did (I saw the police car there a little later).  I think one of our other neighbors who takes a daily walk recovered a few of the tops that had been thrown in a yard at the end of the street.

I told my neighbor I would let others know.  I´m sure it was kids walking through the neighborhood late at night.  It´s so frustrating and a little disturbing to think about this type of thing happening while we sleep.  I´m not sure what can be done about random acts of vandalism like this ? short of taking turns staying up all night on watch!  I wonder if anyone else has experienced this type of thing lately.

2006, June 19  From Jerry Martin, President of Neighborhood Association

Hello Everyone...I met with PSO's people last Thursday afternoon to discuss their tree trimming program.  The next circuit on their plan in our area is along Harvard and Jamestown between 46th and 44th.  Present for PSO were Lisa Johnson of Customer Services, Jennifer Leber, a Reliability Manager, and Richard Bewley, a Forestry Supervisor.

I must say I was impressed with their organization and their desire to satisfy customers while meeting the requirements of their trimming program.  They are very sensitive to the bad publicity their trimming crews have been involved in over the past few years and have taken positive steps to avoid it in the future.

First, the customers to be impacted by a trimming a particular circuit are sent a notification letter 5-6 weeks in advance.  Later, a bright green card with more info is put on the doorknobs.  It identifies individual trees to be trimmed or cut down if the case may be, has the name of the PSO rep and his/her phone number.  Also, each impacted customer receives an individualized Forestry Work Plan.  Furthermore, the initial letter PSO sends out has the number of their Forestry Infoline (1-877-367-6815).  It's located in the Tulsa call center and answered by a PSO rep, not a recording, Mon-Fri, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Lisa assured me that will be glad to answer any questions anyone may have.  Her number is 599-2226. Hope this helps...Regards, Jerry

2006, June 1; Report forwarded from Steve Summers VP Neighborhood Association

Report of Neighborhood Meeting, 5/30

Approximately 20 neighborhood leaders met on 5/30 and reached unanimous consensus that:

1. Code enforcement in Tulsa is woefully inadequate and must be dramatically strengthened.

2. Tulsa's land use PROCESSES do not serve our city well and must be overhauled. The group was especially concerned that neighborhood representatives have historically and systematically been left out of the planning process.

3. Tulsa needs to terminate its contract with INCOG and transfer the city planning function to an executive department within city government..

4. Tulsa's neighborhood associations must communicate these conclusions, in a consistent and coordinated manner, very quickly to Mayor Taylor and the city council.

In anticipation of the TMAPC public hearing scheduled for 6/13, ANOTHER MEETING HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR 5;30 P.M. ON TUESDAY, 5/6,  at the Brookside Library, 1207 E. 45th Pl.

Please plan to attend and invite others whom you think would be interested.

Thank you.

2006, June 1: Theft Report 3700 Block of 48th Pl.

while I was away last week, someone stole a statue of St. Francis of Assisi from my front flower beds.  It was heavy concrete and about 2-1/2 feet tall - and right in area of a yard light.  Since I was out of town, I don't know the date it was taken - so I guess there's no point in informing the police.  But, I only live three doors to the east of the Nelson's who had their shed broken into about two weeks ago.  Looks like this block may be targeted.

Just wanted you to know.

2006, June 1:  Subject Neighborhood PSO Tree Trimming

Hey Everyone...Lisa Johnson of PSO Customer Services returned my call today.  She said their normal schedule is to begin trimming a circuit 3-4 weeks after meeting with the appropriate homeowners/neighborhood association and she would like to meet with our neighborhood reps as soon as possible.  I told her we probably couldn't set something up with her before mid-late next week because it would take us at least that long to get input and formulate some kind of coherent list of concerns.  I gently reminded her of the bad publicity PSO's trimming program has received in the past year or two and said that folks were probably most concerned that a crew (many of whom may not speak very good english) would just barge into their backyards and start butchering their trees.

So, what do you all think?  What kind of other concerns should we address?  Should we get together before talking to her, or perhaps seek input from members via e-mail to us?  Any ideas on what will work best?

Let me know what you think.

Regards...Jerry

We have had reports of a panhandler in the area.  A woman on a bicycle with a story and wanting money.  Not asking for a dollar or two but upwards of $20.00.   If she comes to your door please call the police and have her removed.  If memory serves me correctly she was in the neighborhood a couple of years ago with the same story.

Steven and Pam Nelson (see cc above) live at the corner of 48th Place and Louisville on my block.  Pam called and left me a message that they had a break-in.  I called her this morning - here's what happened:

Between 1 am and 7:30 am Sunday morning (May 21), someone came in through their back gate and went to their storage shed in the far corner of their back yard.  A lawn mower and back pack blower were taken.  Nelson's called the police and have filed a report.  The policeman who answered the call was Duke Stitten (last name?) - he has our beat and Pam told him she would be calling me.  He thought that was a good idea and said if we need him again, to let him know.

We may not be stopping the bad guys yet, but by communicating like this I'll bet we can slow them down!
