Keystone Lake is located along the Arkansas River 15 miles west of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. Keystone Lake is a beautiful 26,000 acre flood control lake that is truly an urban playground. History of Keystone Lake
A small post office community gave Keystone Lake its name. The name "Keystone" was derived from the city's "key" location where the Arkansas and Cimarron Rivers merged. Located southward was Prue and northward was Mannfor, a shortened version of Mann's Ford. The Corps of Engineers placed a levee around the city's southern and eastern sides to protect the low-lying portions of the city from the river water.

Established in 1834, Camp Arbuckle was one of three outposts in the area created to help protect the Leavenworth Expedition through the Wichita Mountains. In 1843, Daniel Boone's son took his troops through this area while on their way to High Plains. US Marshall Nix, who was a well-known lawman, once chased outlaws in the caves and hills of the Keystone Lake area.

Beginning in December 1956 and finishing in September 1964, the flood control dam was ready for use in bringing electrical energy to the Keystone Lake area by 1968.

Education in Keystone Lake
The community of Keystone Lake is served by the Cleveland Public Schools System. There is one early childhood center, one elementary, one middle and one high school in the district. Things to See and Do in Keystone Lake
Keystone Lake real estate houses a virtual playground for everyone of all ages. There are 16 recreation areas (three with alcohol-free beaches), 11 boat ramps, miles of sandy beaches, three marinas, two off-road vehicle areas, five short distance trails, a waterfowl refuge, three seasonal green tree reservoirs and thousands of acres of land open to hunting. You won't have to travel far from home for a short getaway. There are camping facilities that range from primitive to full hook up and cabins available at Keystone State Park. Boat rentals are available through Keyport Marina and Pier 51.

Keystone Lake is a fisherman's dream and is noted for its catfish, crappie, small mouth bass, black bass, sand bass and striped bass. From Whitewater and Brush Creek Parks, fisheries are easily access downstream. Swift Park (a day use Tulsa County Park) provides boat access to the Arkansas River below the lake when water levels are adequate.
